The Fiction Writing Workshop for Teens
In this fiction writing workshop for teens, you will engage
your imagination, discover how to think like a writer, and revise your work
with the help of your peers. If you have been excited by creative writing but
need some structured support to get your ideas onto the page, this class is for
you. We’ll read short stories by masters and learn from their craft, and you
will engage in writing prompts and exercises that help build your
writing-muscle and develop new stories. Once you have practiced putting together
scenes, developing compelling characters, vivid settings, and engaging plots,
you will share a completed short story with your peers. During the workshop,
your peers and instructor will offer feedback that will help you return to your
story with a clearer sense of what is working well, and where you can push your
piece into the shape it wants to be.
This is both an instructional and generative workshop – meaning, you will learn new skills and generate new material during this 5-week course. All writing levels are welcome!
